Getting Nowhere

Driving in circles getting nowhere,
All I know is I want to get there,
The blackened tar with perfect white lines,
Taking orders from painted signs,
Swerving left then swerving right,
All through the day and into the night,
Never ending the road goes on,
Under the moon and through the dawn,
Grip the wheel tighter hope you speed up,
But no matter how fast it isn’t enough,
To be home right now would be a blessing,
But those aren’t given often or so I am guessing,
As the sun sinks into the sky,
I wish to myself that I could fly,
Over each car and each bus and each bike,
To whichever place I might like,
But I think I’ll close my eyes and sleep instead,
Cause my appetite for dreams never gets fed.
