Regret

Regret always comes just a second too late,
It comes right after choice and just before fate,
It always shows up but never on time,
And it always sneaks up without a sign,
It’s always around which you can’t stand,
But it seems that with life it walks hand in hand,
Regret makes you realize all the mistakes that you’ve made,
And it continues to burn after the memories fade,
You carry it with you until the day that you die,
Every mistake every cheat every pain every lie,
It’s the kind of thing that you’ll never get over,
Not with all the happiness of children or luck of a clover,
It’s the kind of torture that hurts day after day,
And no matter what it wont go away,
Regret is the way that all lessons are learned,
Every speck of your joy has been painfully earned,
Why is regret always in the front of your mind,
When you’re reflecting on something that’s all far behind.
